Case Study: White Rocks Scale Model for Shape Your Space

When we were approached by Shape Your Space, coordinated by Project Green, the brief was clear: develop a scale model of White Rocks, Pembroke for the launch of Malta’s new National Parks initiative.

Shape Your Space invites the public to help design three upcoming National Parks - Manoel Island, White Rocks, and Fort Campbell - encouraging communities to contribute ideas that will shape welcoming, accessible green spaces for nature, recreation, and everyday life.

For the White Rocks project, a strong visual centrepiece was needed, a tangible reference that could translate long-term vision into something immediate and understandable.

Reconstructing White Rocks in 3D

The brief required more than a visual representation. It demanded accuracy.

In achieving this, we utilised:

  • Reference imagery
  • Google Maps and Google Earth data
  • Elevation information

From these sources, our team reconstructed the entire White Rocks landscape in detailed 3D. Land contours, gradients, and a structural outline was digitally rebuilt to ensure spatial precision and topographical realism.

This wasn’t a decorative piece. It needed to be technically sound and presentation-ready.

Once the 3D reconstruction was complete, we moved into prototyping. A full prototype was printed to test segmentation, refine the subdivision of parts, and ensure seamless assembly. Given the model’s scale, it was divided into multiple components, each engineered to fit together with precision.

After final printing, each element underwent light sanding, priming, and spray finishing, resulting in a clean, minimalistic aesthetic that allowed the landscape itself to take centre stage.

The model sits on an 18mm plywood base, CNC-cut in-house to create a perfectly level and durable foundation for the entire structure.

Impact at Launch

The completed White Rocks scale model was showcased at the Shape Your Space launch event, acting as a visual and tactile guide for students, stakeholders, and decision-makers discussing the future of the project area.

By transforming complex planning information into a physical landscape, the model helped shift the conversation from abstract proposals to shared vision.

At Giftagoods, we are designers first. We don’t create generic merchandise or recycled concepts. We’re a boutique studio of product designers, artists, and experience architects focused on one goal: making it memorable.

This project wasn’t simply fabrication. It was interpretation, storytelling, and spatial design, bringing a national vision into physical form.
